Last evening I watched my FOY Indigo Bunting flit around the avian buffet
where he appeared to favor the Oriole feeders. The combined colors of the
fruit and the bird were stunning.

My summer feeders do not include suet, so I have been surprised this past week
at the appearance of a male Yellow Bellied Sapsucker at the peanut feeder.
It came by itself for a few days, but last evening at around 8 PM I saw two.
One sat on the top of the pole, and the male repeatedly
on the planet!

At the favored location of the corner of Mahaney and Genoa/Lansing
Town Line Rds
earlier this afternoon, friends and I enjoyed snowstorms of swooping,
banking and ground-feeding SNOW BUNTINGS. There were hundreds of them
traveling around to their choice spots on the farm. There was also an

(perhaps) by the PBS Nature Show on Owls, a friend and I returned for the
third time this Winter in hopes of an owl display. We arrived at 5:40,
when there was still plenty of sun, and our first SHORT-EARED OWL swooped
A group of us watched four (unless that fourth one doubled back unnoticed
to join the other three) of the Scofield Road SHORT-EARED OWLS just after
sunset yesterday (Wednesday). They spent most of their time over the
western side of the large field located to the west of the road. It was

EAGLE and a COMMON EIDER.

at the edge of the woods before it opens up into the marshy area. Two

At Myers this morning, at 9:30, Marianne Ludwigsen and I saw a lone
NORTHERN PINTAIL. It left soon after we arrived.
In Cayuga, from a distance, we thought we saw a swan, but a drive down into
Harris Park revealed a SNOW GOOSE swimming close to shore. We were
concerned with the way it held one
Birding highlights today for Marianne Ludwigsen and me included seventeen
LOONS off the dock at the Wells boathouse in Aurora, and the GREATER
WHITE--FRONTED GOOSE (a life bird for each of us) spotted by Marianne in the

Around 9 a.m. yesterday at Myers, a friend and I saw what we thought was an
immature Black-crowned Night Heron. We returned home to consult several
books, and visit three websites; the result was that we were reasonably

This morning at about 6:45, the PALM WARBLER entertained (singing, tail
wagging, hopping about) for several minutes among the bushes east of the
Swan Pen at Stewart Park. I walked around the pen, and it was still there

Park this afternoon at 2:00. I did make one change; I pulled into the
