[cayugabirds-l] Peregrine at Taughannock Falls

2023-04-29 Thread Suzanne Gervais
I saw 2 peregrine falcons at Taughannock Falls. They were exchanging something
while flying over the creek. This was near the big and high beige rock wall in
the bend on the south side of the trail.

[cayugabirds-l] Rough-legged Hawk

2020-12-19 Thread Suzanne Gervais
Has anyone seen a rough legged hawk around the corner of rte 366 and Forest
Home? I believe I just saw one but am uncertain if that is what it was. Pretty
whitish underneath as it flies over with a belly patch and pretty dark back
when perched. Definitively not a red tail. Looked smaller. It looked to me
pretty much like the pictures of rough legged hawk on the Merlin app. I
followed it for a while. It kept flying on and off, looking down, from the
above mentioned corner to above the field on game farm and back to Forest Home.
It also was cognizant of my watching it.

[cayugabirds-l] Eagles at Stewart Park this afternoon

2020-03-01 Thread Suzanne Gervais
Hi all,
Has anyone seen the two, perhaps 3 eagles on ice at Stewart Park this afternoon
sometime between 3:30pm and 4:00pm. I listed them on ebird as Golden Eagles but
I was unsure if these were (unusual) Golden Eagles or Juvenile Bald Eagles. One
actually had a gull at its feet, perhaps 1 foot away and the gull was still.
After 5 minutes or so, the eagle advanced and kicked a bit the gull that moved
away another foot or so. Then the other eagle lifted and started flying over so
the first eagle finally let the gull alone and flew away too. One person there
said she saw a third one too.
