[cayugabirds-l] The Bald Eagle: A Conservation Success Story

2020-06-14 Thread lajewskic
Tuesday, June 16 6:30 PM - 8:00 PMThe Bald Eagle: A Conservation Success StoryA symbol of national strength and unity, the Bald Eagle has also become a parable for nature's unshakable ties to humans. Estimated to have numbered 100,000 in pre-colonial times, shooting, cutting of forests, and finally pesticides, took a toll on the bird, bringing it to the brink of extinction by the early 1960's. Join Montezuma Audubon Center Director Chris Lajewski to hear the conservation success story of our national bird and learn how the Montezuma Wetlands Complex played an important role in bringing the bird back from the brink. Fee: $10/person. Click https://act.audubon.org/a/bald-eagle-conservation-success-story-tickets to register for this workshop. You will receive a Zoom link to the workshop in your confirmation email. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex.Chris LajewskiCenter DirectorMontezuma Audubon Center

[cayugabirds-l] Howland's Island

2020-05-03 Thread lajewskic
I've spent the last two mornings on Howland's Island and found over 40 species both days. Carncross Road is flooded so access is limited to Howland's Island Road north of Port Byron for a few days. Highlights on May 3 included Sandhill Crane, American Bittern, Pied-billed Grebe, Wood Thrush, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Cerulean Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Yellow Warbler, American Redstart, Baltimore Oriole, Warbling Vireo, and Yellow-throated Vireo. Good birding,Chris LajewskiCenter DirectorMontezuma Audubon Center
