[cayugabirds-l] Am Wigeon

2017-03-17 Thread Gian Dodici
About 20 minutes ago I saw a lone American Wigeon loafing on ice in Virgil
Creek just downstream of the Springhouse Rd bridge in Dryden. I don't
recall ever seeing waterfowl in that reach before though I expect wood
ducks.

[cayugabirds-l] Am. Wigeon: Mill Pond, Union Springs

2016-10-02 Thread John and Fritzie Blizzard
Keep forgetting to post. Saw 7 Am. wigeon on Mill Pond on Thurs.
morning, 29 Sept. 2016. First since spring.

Last I looked, the Mill pond sign put up by the scout still had the
green heron listed as a pileated woodpecker.

I had seen wood ducks & babies on Factory pond numerous times through
the summer. Man across the street said this was the_first yr. ever_, in
his 40 yrs. living there, that he had seen woodies actually nest there
... & successfully raise young without a snapper getting them. Two
females ... one had 4 , the other 5. Last I saw the young, they were
almost adult size.
