Actually they came in last week as reported by the residents at Hile school rd and Red Mill. Assuming same rookery. Maybe 14-15 th. I haven’t seen any foragers at the HS Wetland yet. There is a wonderful little beaver pond withAnother 8-10 nests back along the old railroad that starts by the
The long standing GBH rookery that is roughly half way between Freeville and
Mclean (northwest side of Fall Creek Road, in a large marshy area adjacent to
Fall Creek) started to repopulate yesterday and had almost every nest occupied
today. Roughly a dozen birds. The birds that nest here are
The great blue heron rookery in Malloryville, between Red Mill Rd. and West
Malloryville Rd and best viewed from Fall Creek Rd., has been repopulated by
returning great blue herons over the last few days. My daughters and I counted
seven there late this afternoon, all occupying different nests
Saw a Great Blue Heron fly over the Cayuga inlet when I left work yesterday

I, too, spotted a Great Blue during our weekly raptor survey at the
Montezuma NWR yesterday. I asked it if it wanted to borrow my compass,
but it politely said no, it had learned how to both orient AND navigate
a few seasons back. (smile)
It WAS a pleasure to see one at this
On a walk around Upper Buttermilk yesterday afternoon I was surprised to
see a GREAT BLUE HERON lift off and fly upstream from the marshy area at
Lake Treman. Don't see how it could find sufficient food there to
survive, much less just keep warm. Selfishly it would be nice to have
it stick
First one for us this year, up on a pond on Comfort Rd in Danby, near

stream, I saw a Great Blue standing with something dark hanging from its mouth
that caught my eye. The Heron was shaking a rodent. It would put it on the
ground and pick it up to shake it again. He repeated this about
At 12:20 pm Tuesday, a Great Blue Heron has just landed at a tiny bit of open

Little late in posting, but day before yesterday I was very pleasantly
surprised to see a GREAT BLUE HERON flying at the back of the Tompkins
Co. Solid Waste/Recycling Center. I'm always amazed how they find
enough food to survive the winter. Actually, in some way or another all
birds amaze
One Great Blue Heron flew north over Brooktondale's Valley Road at 1445

Amongst the Grackles, Robins and Redwings singing away this morning, a
GREAT BLUE HERON flew over East Ithaca Rec Way--Honness Lane. It must
mean that the waters are opening and crayfish/frogs becoming available.
Larry and I are on our way up the lake to see what other goodies we can
spot!
