John just called from Montezuma to say that he watched a Hudsonian
Godwit land in the pool that is just inside the entrance. Several other
cars have stopped to see it, too.

There was a Hudsonian Godwit seen today by a few people and missed by many more
of us at La Salle's Landing Park after it was apparently flushed by a Peregrine
Falcon. Up to three hours of searching for it by some failed to re-locate it.

Jackie and Larue report that the HUDSONIAN GODWIT was in the north end of
Eaton Marsh on the Wildlife Drive again this morning, along with a variety
of other expected shorebirds and good numbers of waterfowl out on the Main
Pool.

I had a good trip up to Montezuma yesterday, and got to see the Hudsonian
Godwit for a couple of minutes at about noon before it took off flying to
the north.
The bird was at the beginning of Eaton Marsh on Wildlife Drive, and I took
a few photos of it before it flew. Because this is only my
FYI, Mark Miller just called to say he has a HUGO at the North end of Eaton
Marsh (MNWR) about 100' from the drive

This morning 8:30 the Godwit was feeding close to the Visitors Center. I was
able to watch it from the balcony after two other birders saw it from the
Observation Tower. It was still there when I left around 9. For a double treat

For a morning update - the godwit is still present at the Montezuma
NWR visitor center as of 7:24, reported by Gary Kohlenberg. Last
night a Wilson's Phalarope dropped in next to the godwit briefly
before both birds took off. It sounds like at least the godwit came
back; perhaps the phalarope is
they just observed two Commons at Miliken Station it seemed to fit the bill.

Chuck Gibson of the Eaton Birding Society found those Hudsonian Godwits at
MNWR. He has posted a very fine photo to the Eatonbirds group site. The
picture shows one intensely red breeding-plumage male flanked by two duller
birds, which I would think are adult females.
According to Chuck's
Tom Johnson, Matt Medler, and I ran up to Montezuma this evening to take a
look at the godwit. One bright male HUDSONIAN GODWIT was foraging in one of
the open spots in the pool not far to the northeast off the visitor center
deck. We watched it until nearly dusk. Two Sandhill Cranes called
