[cayugabirds-l] Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks, etc.

2019-05-14 Thread Judy Cuyle
Here on upper Bruce Hill Road in Danby we have three males and at least one
female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak. We usually have them in the summer. We had a
male Indigo Bunting stop at the feeders once this year, and that seems to be an
annual occurrence. We see it just the once. We have two or three male Baltimore
Orioles and, we think, one female. It's lighter than a male but darker than a
female. The Orioles won't use the Oriole feeder; they use the Hummingbird
feeder and work on fresh oranges. We've only seen one pair of Hummingbirds so
far this year. Some years we have so many we have four feeders for them.
Watching the various birds and other wild animals certainly keeps us
entertained!

[cayugabirds-l] Rose-breasted Grosbeaks on upper Bruce Hill Road, Danby

2016-05-11 Thread Judy Cuyle
Are male Rose-breasted Grosbeaks not territorial? We have three of them hanging
around our sunflower feeders and suet feeders and they seem to be okay with
each other. We put up two extra suet feeders this morning because they seem to
like the suet and our regular suet feeders are bottom-feed only. We've only
seen one female so far. We do have at least one Ruby-throated Hummingbird. No
Baltimore Orioles yet this year.

[cayugabirds-l] Rose Breasted Grosbeaks

2016-05-10 Thread Sue Norvell
A Rose Breasted Grosbeak male arrived four days ago and has been eating
sunflower seed (no suet) since. Three days ago we had a female Rose Breasted
Grosbeak which ate suet (and only suet) on and off for two days. We haven't
seen her today.

Also eating suet- a crow! huge! when it's so close.

A Baltimore Oriole is in the area, so far not at the feeder. (We have suet and
sunflower seed, no oranges at this point. Do they like clementines??)

[cayugabirds-l] Rose-breasted Grosbeaks

2011-05-04 Thread bilbaker
I arrived home from town this evening close to 7PM to a rather nice
surprise - 4 male and 1 female Rose-breasted Grosbeaks on my porch feeders
all at once. The feeders are about 2 ft apart, so I was able to see them
all through a single window. I have never seen so many of this species in
such close proximity beforeA very nice reminder of spring after such a
dreary day.
