A Swamp Sparrow has joined the chorus of birds (and frogs) in the beaver
pond/meadow next to my property.
And the local Carolina Wrens have ignored all the other reasonable nesting
sites around the property, choosing instead to build inside the (closed) lid of
our propane tank!

I was just letting my dogs out, and heard a brief bird song that lasted about 5
seconds. I thought it was a junco trill at first, but I was half asleep so I
wasn’t sure. I started “listening” with Merlin in case it sang again, and
luckily it did. It was ID as a swamp sparrow, listed as rare
Up and singing at the Sherwood Platform Sapsucker Woods Ithaca.

This species has probably already been reported elsewhere, but there was a
singing Swamp Sparrow in the beaver meadow next to my property an hour or so
ago.
