Thanks so much for sharing, Jay! We were able to get the Cayuga bird club
field trip up the lake to get great views!

Cayugabirds-L List Info:

The reason that species are blocked and hidden as "sensitive" in eBird
could be from a multitude of reasons. In terms of the Gyrfalcon, it is a
bird at risk for capture and trade by falconers. Exposing the location of
such a prized species through public records could spell trouble for the
bird.
To that point…
I don’t fully understand how a Gyrfalcon in winter (in the Lower 48), or any
falcon in winter for that matter, is considered a “sensitive species” such that
it gets blocked by eBird.
Snowy Owls actually make more sense to block over a Gyrfalcon, any day. Way too
much stress is
Gladys Birdsall & I looked for Gyrfalcon at quarry yesterday afternoon & did
NOT see it.
Also did not see either Snowy or Shorteared Owls in all that area around FL
Airport.

I'll echo this appeal, please post to the list serve. We have to go old-school
again with Ebird blocking some sightings.

Yes Dave you did mention north in the message, it was my brain that missed
reading that word. I read that when I re-read the message second time!
I was going to mention that but I forgot as I was doing something else.

The bird disappeared for a few minutes, but made another pass and is

Hi all, Tim and I last spotted the bird flying down Stahl Road, north of
the field with the geese and ducks. There are still waterfowl in the area,
but a good number dispersed. If we find the bird again, we'll post.
