Hi all, I took my Mundy lunch walk. As I was just getting down from behind Nematode Green houses, I saw large bird land into a basswood. After some time I could locate it and could it was a cuckoo. After it moved to couple of hiding places, I could finally make out that it was a Black-billed cuckoo. Then it flew to a tree behind USDA green houses, when I could see it tail pattern. Other than that a Common Merganser was in its usual location.
All the chipmunks and squirrels in Mindy were giving alarm call for ground predator, first I thought it was due to my presence, then I saw a Coyote walk across the fenced part of the Mundy, I felt good that I am inside the cage. I was getting a little worried to walk the path. I kept watch for the coyote as climbed the hill. Other than that I counted 28 sulphur butterflies (Colias sp. mostly clouded yellows) in one small patch, four Monarch butterflies, several Cabbage whites and a Shadow Darner (Aeshna umbrosa). Nice beautiful day! Yesterday when I was on Towpath road, here also I saw a quick glimpse of a cuckoo when it flew along the channel, but could not get any details.
