[cayugabirds-l] Cerulean Warbler and Northern Waterthrush

2020-05-07 Thread Peter Saracino
Cerulean warbler today on Armitage Rd. Seneca County Side (north side) of
road - west side of one lane bridge - very near current location of the
prothonatory nest box.
Also there is a northern waterthrush on both sides of Armitage Rd. (I heard
one and heard and saw the other) around the same location.

[cayugabirds-l] Cerulean Warbler in Ithaca (?), Sat 5/11

2019-05-11 Thread Mark Chao
On Saturday afternoon at about 2:10 PM, from the new housing development at
400 Spencer Road in Ithaca, I heard what I think was a singing CERULEAN
WARBLER up the slope (along lower Stone Quarry Road). I couldn’t confirm
this bird by sight (no binoculars, didn’t even try). But I do feel that
Cerulean is the most likely ID, despite its local rarity and potential for
confusion with other singers.

[cayugabirds-l] Cerulean Warbler

2014-05-08 Thread peter wiedmann
This morning, Rick Lightbody and I walked Sapsucker woods. Around the pond,
highlights included: BLACKBURNIAN WARBLERS, AM. REDSTART, WOOD THRUSH,
BLUE-HEADED VIREO, and BARRED OWL; mostly viewed in the birch tree part of the
trail.
We continued across the road to the boardwalk and saw a N. WATERTHRUSH, RED
EYED VIREO, and OVENBIRD.
Then to the power-line trail: we were chasing down a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER
when a CERULEAN WARBLER came into view (complete with white throat and dark
neck-band). From the far parking lot, it was at the far end of the power-line
trail, up in a big leaf aspen tree on the airport/rt 13 side of the trail.

[cayugabirds-l] Cerulean Warbler at Lindsay-Parson's again Sunday

2013-06-30 Thread Gary Kohlenberg
Today was the jackpot with a bonus after three trips looking for Worm-eating
Warblers. I broke with routine and walked in on the RR tracks at
Lindsay-Parson's Preserve to the blue trail.

Two Worm-eating Warblers were on the back of the blue trail feeding low and
only about 25 feet away! Another was trilling, previous to seeing these guys,
but I didn't count it because it could have been one of the two I saw. I got a
recording of their Tik calls while feeding. A Black-billed Cuckoo was in the
same area farther back east of the trail.

A Cerulean Warbler was singing just a little way up the blue trail from the RR
tracks. That is very close to the back of the pond where Chris heard one
yesterday I believe. It sang three or four times then was quiet. It was too
steep and brushy to try for a look.

Hi Diane

The song is a Blackburnian Warbler. It stutters in the middle like a Cerulean
but ends by going very high at the end - almost off the audible scale for most
of us - rather than ending with a loud "zreee" The habitat is right for
Blackburnian up there As well.

Yesterday I heard a Cerulean Warbler sing five or so times in succession in the
northwest area of Sapsucker-- is this the Wilson trail? -- he fell silent after

[cayugabirds-l] Cerulean Warbler - Stewart Park

2010-04-30 Thread Tom Johnson
Cayugabirders,
While I was looking at loons from Stewart Park this morning, I heard
and then briefly saw a male Cerulean Warbler when it flew out of the
first large willow tree just east of the Swan Pen. The bird gained
height but I lost it as it headed toward the southeast corner of the
lake along the shoreline. I didn't have a great idea on whether this
is a local arrival that could end up in Renwick/ Jetty Woods or a more
ambitious migrant. There were lots of migrant passerines redirecting
this morning over the park, with Purple Martin, Eastern Bluebird, ~26
Yellow-rumped Warblers, ~13 Yellow Warblers, a few Savannah Sparrows,
and an Eastern Meadowlark highlighting as obvious migrants. A few
other stops around Ithaca turned up quite a few "new" Chipping
Sparrows. Let the floodgates open tonight (light south winds)!
Cheers,
Tom
