After this morning's well-attended spring bird quest at the McIlroy bird
sanctuary (highlights for me included a pair of close low Blackburnians and a
singing Magnolia along with alder flycatchers and other expected species), I
pulled over with Rick L by the Branch Road bridge over Lake Como to just enjoy
the marshy scenery with the usual blackbirds and grackles and kingbirds and a
skulking GBH. Suddenly a peregrine flew past exciting a minor ruckus; later two
crows were seen harassing a raven, and a yellow-throated vireo started singing.
It reminded us that sometimes the best birding happens when you just sit and
wait at one spot.
