While walking at Salt Point Natural Area (Lansing) this afternoon, I stopped to
watch a small flock of American Wigeon and noticed one with a red head. It had
a pale stripe down the forehead to the bill. No green on the face that I could

This past Saturday during the walk onto the dikes at Knox-Marsellus Marsh at
Montezuma NWR I picked out a wigeon in non-breeding plumage whose ruddy sides,
breast, and head indicated it to be a Eurasian Wigeon. One detail which made it
differ from depictions and my previous sightings was that
Eurasian Wigeon continues at stewart park, just a bit west of the pier.

The male Eurasian Wigeon found by Dave Nutter at Stewart Park yesterday is
still there this morning. Foraging with American Wigeon and Green-winged
Teal on a mud bar out from the tennis courts.
It is windy viewing but good light.

Reuben Stoltzfus reports a group of birders looking from Rock Cabin Road in
Watkins Glen on Monday had a male Eurasian Wigeon out in the marsh from the
tower.

The Eurasian Wigeon was still at Stewart Park at 10 am this morning, in a
group of American Wigeon foraging close to shore near the east end of the
park. When I pulled into the loop parking area, I could see it from the car
with binoculars. Other ducks along the shore included American Wigeon,

leading the ornithology field trip, and we had several other birders with
us, Menachem Goldstein, Logan Kahle, Sarah Toner, and Max Kirsch.
There were a couple of birders at Frontenac already (whose names I don't

I received a call from Barb Reuter who was watching a drake Eurasian Wigeon on
Van Dyne Spoor Road in Savanhah with a large group of American wigeon. She said
it was close to an electric pole #291.

Late this afternoon (27 March) I walked to from my home to Cayuga Lake, where I was surprised to find a single male EURASIAN WIGEON again, 12 days after I first found one there. After a gap of 5 days in reports from the south end of the lake, combined with reports of 1 or 2 by the Village of
the male EURASIAN WIGEON was still on the ice edge at the SW corner of Cayuga
Lake at about 12:30 today -- behaving much as Ben reported, walking up on the
ice and not associating with the American Wigeons nearby. Difficult looks
through the trees from Rt. 89, but a beautiful bird.

In addition to what Jay mentioned the Kevin McGowan led shorebird walk group we
have added Eurasian Wigeon, Baird's Sandpiper, American Bittern, White-rumped
Sandpipers, and a large flock of American Golden-Plovers and much more.
Whimbrel, Sandhill Crane and red knot still too. several
Now. Plus 22 American Golden plovers which flew out moments ago. Still hear
at least one in the marsh.

This afternoon Luke, Jessie and I went up the west side of the Cayuga Lake and
focused our efforts along Lower Lake Road on the NW side of the lake. There are
tens of thousands of birds with huge numbers of Snow Geese. Most pintail are
now in the mucklands and Mallard, Black Duck and Common

Last night I met someone who birds regularly with a group of people from
the Cornell Campus Club. She said that they found a Eurasian wigeon at
Stewart Park yesterday morning, apparently in with a group of Am.

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this has been posted, but apparently a EURASIAN WIGEON has
been seen at Tschache Pool several times over the last week or so,
including as recently as this morning. We missed it last weekend (very few
dabblers of any kind on the pool), but it was seen last week and several
Frank Morlock just texted to say that a nice male EURASIAN WIGEON is on the
headquarters pond on Howland Island north of Montezuma.
Closer to Ithaca, Livia and I just saw 6 NORTHERN SHOVELERS giving great
looks offshore at Stewart Park.

At sunset this evening Tim Lenz texted the Basin RBA that a drake
EURASIAN WIGEON was at the east end of Stewart Park. I'm sure he will
post details, but thought I would get the word out now. I and I'm sure
others will be looking first thing in the morning and will post if it

Late this afternoon along the end of VanDyne Spoor Road was an adult
drake EURASIAN WIGEON. This bird was in the largest pool of standing
water in the mowed portion of the weedy field just before the point
where the field transitions to being unmowed.
