[cayugabirds-l] GODWIT and more

2012-05-30 Thread Jill Vaughan
Marianne L. and I watched the HUDSONIAN GODWIT moving around at Benning
Marsh (11 a.m.) - handsome with the chestnut color showing in the
sunlight. On Vandyne Spoor Road, we heard an ORCHARD ORIOLE singing just
at the edge of the woods before it opens up into the marshy area. Two
other audio treats: AMERICAN BITTERN and (whinnying of) a SORA. At the
east end of the road, there were several BLACK TERNS swooping around and
skimming the water, and a COMMON MOORHEN dabbled close to shore.

[cayugabirds-l] Godwit at MWR

2011-10-28 Thread Mark Miller
Just made a run over to Montezuma today (didn't do the auto route), the visitor
center pool was full of C. Geese, assorted ducks, and a Godwit (Hudsonian,
non-breeding?). Also hiked Esker Brook/South Spring Pool trail and found a lot
of robins, (hermit) thrush, several rusty blackbirds, YR warblers, lots of
white-throated sparrows, field sparrows, flickers, downy, red-bellied
woodpeckers, cedar waxwings, and a few yellowlegs (both lesser & greater).
Knox-Marsellus was also full of geese & ducks (including several groups of snow
geese). I saw 4 or 5 Sandhill Cranes but Jackie and LaRue were a little behind
me and counted 9 on their survey (all near East Rd).

[cayugabirds-l] Godwit

2011-04-24 Thread joe & Diana
 hi ,
I went to Montezuma this morning and two spins around the drive [one at 8:30
and then at 11:00] had no shorebirds or Marbled Godwit. I think the birds had
more sense than I did today!
