I visited the Goetchius Preserve in Caroline this morning. When I arrived, there was a GREAT EGRET perched high in a tree at the back of the open water. On my way back through an hour or so later, it was gone. From the road, I also spotted a BROWN THRASHER and a YELLOW WARBLER. Walking through the preserve (in wellies) I found five LESSER YELLOWLEGS and three KILLDEER in the newly restored wetland area. In the wooded area behind, I found a PALM WARBLER, two RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, and another YELLOW WARBLER. There were SAVANNAH SPARROWS sprinkled across the field and a BROAD-WINGED HAWK flew overhead.

New yard birds this morning included a dozen WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, a pair of COWBIRDS, a BLUE-HEADED VIREO, a flying BROAD-WINGED HAWK being harassed by crows, and a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER.
