For those of you who don't get text alerts, the harlequin duck was spotted
again today, hanging around East Shore Park with a small raft of mallards.
I believe it was 2-2:30 when we were there.

At one point late this morning the Harlequin Duck moved well south of the
sailing center and all the associated buoys, into the bay at the SE corner of
the lake, still associating with Mallards and Bufflehead in shallow water. The

I thought it was worth mentioning here that it seems to be a *first-year
male* rather than a female. I figured there was a good chance of that

This morning I joined the Cayuga Bird Club field trip led by Diane Morton & Ken
Kemphues starting at Stewart Park. Consensus was not to go next to the SW
corner of the lake due sounds of gunfire and the ducks there being mainly
plastic. We headed next to East Shore Park, and I arrived first, by
Dave Nutter has reported a female harlequin duck by the docks north of East
shore park An unusual bird to say the least for the Cayuga Lake basin.

I have seen reports that the Harlequin Duck in Oswego has died, no details
except that it happened about 2:30 PM while some birders were watching it. I
saw it Saturday evening and it had it’s head tucked down most of the time I was
there, moving very slowly upstream.
