[cayugabirds-l] Ithaca Golden Eagles yesterday

2014-03-08 Thread Dave Nutter
Perhaps we all should have known that yesterday, with south winds in early March, would be a big day for migrating Golden Eagles, but I wish the word had gotten out at the time.--Dave NutterBegin forwarded message:From: ebird-al...@cornell.eduDate: March 07, 2014 10:15:16 PMTo: nutter.d...@mac.com - Golden Eagle (6 reports) Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) (11) - Reported Mar 07, 2014 08:00 by Andrew Dreelin - Cornell University--Libe Slope, Tompkins, New York - Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8t=pz=13q=42.44786,-76.48595ll=42.44786,-76.48595 - Checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S17350681 - Comments: "*High Count; first at ~8:30, last at ~3:10; almost all following similar flight line heading up basin and then cutting east (over Willard Straight from our view). Re: [cayugabirds-l] Ithaca Golden Eagles yesterday

2014-03-08 Thread Laura Stenzler
Hi all
I watched for raptors yesterday from our south facing deck on Hunt Hill Rd., SE
of Ithaca, from 8:30 til 11:30 and again 3 pm til 4 and saw nothing!
Interesting that the eagles are not dispersed across the sky but indeed seem to
follow flight paths. We've had eagles fly over but often they are more to the
west. We are southeast of Cayuga Lake and that seems to make a big difference
even on days when they are seen from Mt Pleasant, which is close by, they are
not seen from our house. Oh well.
