Hi all, This is my first post since moving back to the Ithaca area a couple months ago. I was very excited to see multiple LEAST BITTERNS at Montezuma NWR yesterday morning, in the same location of Larue's Lagoon (second body of water on the right) as other folks have posted recently. Occasionally, one would fly right over the Wildlife Drive, as previously described. Other highlights in this vicinity (but on the left side of the drive) were Marsh Wrens and a Black-crowned Night-Heron.
Just past this spot on the right, Kevin McGowan was kind enough to help me sort through a number of shorebirds. With his guidance, I was able to view a WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER. Other shorebirds here included Least Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plover, and a single Greater Yellowlegs. Several Caspian Terns were also hanging out in this area. Some other birds of note included a Great Egret at Benning Marsh and a handful of Purple Martins (female or immature) at the Visitor Center.
