Re: [cayugabirds-l] Lone snow goose

2013-05-11 Thread John Confer
Hi Folks,

It is possible that the same bird is flying around this area. I
didn't see it until about 10 days ago after several scans of the Thomas
Rd wetlands when I spent enough time that I think I would have seen it
if it were there. It was at the Thomas Rd wetlands last Friday at about
1:00. The time Karen and I saw it was awfully close to the time John saw
it, although that doesn't mean that it didn't arrive or fly away just
minutes before/after we saw it.

Cheers,

John

I saw a lone snow goose flying north in the Wilseyville area yesterday
afternoon. As they are not exactly solitary birds, I wonder what was going
 on. John

[cayugabirds-l] Lone snow goose, Candor

2013-01-14 Thread Mo Barger Rooster Hill Farm
On my way in this morning, there was a lone snow goose in a field on
Honeypot Road. Hard to say if he was injured or not.
It was notable imo because you never see just one goose this time of year.

Yet, yesterday the Bird Club field trip group going around the lake saw ONE
SNOW GOOSE fly from the shore area into the lake by the boathouse in Aurora!
Nearby hunters may have had some role in this, possibly.
One of them waved at us (uphill with scopes set up), as they roared by in their
motorboat shortly after we saw the goose.

A single Snow Goose by the Wells College boathouse in Aurora on Sunday is interesting to me because on Saturday I saw from that location a flock of about a thousand of them out in the middle of the lake. Perhaps they were all off feeding when you arrived, and this was just the first to return, or as you suggest, a weak flyer due to a hunting injury, and stayed local.--Dave NutterOn Jan 14, 2013, at 11:08 AM, Donna Scott d...@cornell.edu wrote:Yet, yesterday the Bird Club field trip group going around the lake saw ONE SNOW GOOSE fly from the shore areainto the lake by the boathouse in Aurora!Nearby hunters may have had some role in this, possibly. One of them waved at us (uphill with scopes set up), as they roared by in their motorboat shortly after we saw the goose.Donna Scott- Original Message -From: Mo Barger Rooster Hill FarmTo: cayugabirds CornellSent: Monday, January 14, 2013 10:47 AMSubject: [cayugabirds-l] Lone snow goose, CandorOn my way in this morning, there was a lone snow goose in a field onHoneypot Road.
