On my afternoon walk up Mt Pleasant Rd (east end) around 4pm today I heard a singing Horned Lark and located it fluttering and hovering high in the sky. I'm no expert at judging heights, but it had to have been 100 feet up or more. After several minutes alternately fluttering and gliding up there in the wind, it folded its wings and plummeted to earth, landing just a short distance from me in a plowed field at the top of the hill (close to the yellow "steep hill" sign). Amazingly, it did a repeat performance when I was on my way back.
Wonderful to watch...
