Re: [cayugabirds-l] OOB redpolls

2021-03-22 Thread Katherine Graham
I have had about 20-50 red polls show up at my feeders every morning for the
past 6 weeks This AM there were 50. They have been so entertaining to watch.
I too will miss them when they leave.

But happily, my “resident” meadowlark is back!

Re: [cayugabirds-l] OOB redpolls

2021-03-22 Thread Bill McAneny
We had NO redpolls all winter.until today. About 4pm two redpolls
appeared on our stone patio and scavenged sunflower seed under a feeder.
They did not stay long.  On the other hand, two Bluebirds showed up
about the same time and are checking out bird houses.  And yesterday a
pair of Killdeer were checking out the edge of a cornfield on Cayuga
View Rd where they have nested in past years. Also yesterday we hosted
our FOY fox sparrow beneath our feeder.  Happy Spring!

We had one yesterday. We’ve seen two at our kitchen window feeders regularly
since the beginning of January, but that was the only one who showed up in the
last week. On the other hand, we haven’t been inside, looking out the windows
as much!

Same here. A small group has been regular at the sunflower feeder for the past
few weeks. Snyder Hill area, Ithaca.

I wonder when they will decide to head back north? I’ll miss them!

RE: [cayugabirds-l] OOB redpolls

I still have a handful of them in Newfield, foraging on and under the feeders.
The group grew from an occasional one or two in mid-February to about 40 last
week and is now dwindling.
