Dear bird listers,
I study the behavioral ecology of local yellowjackets, and have always wondered
which bird species are responsible for the destruction of so many young
colonies in late May and early June. I'm most curious about predators of
aerial-nesting yellowjackets and bald-faced hornets
(http://wiki.bugwood.org/HPIPM:Baldfaced_Hornet), but would love to hear
anecdotes and observations about birds interacting with ground-nesting
yellowjackets, as well as paper wasps. I recall a year or two ago, someone
posted a description of crows knocking down an adult bald-faced hornet nest.
What an dramatic event to witness! If you have any stories, please send them my
way.

Thanks!
Kevin Loope
