Hope no one minds this post, but I have recently been updating my life list and
found a little conflict between ebird & the American Birding Association list
rules. I was curious to see what others consider "countable" when it comes to
their life lists. The ABA seems to make numerous changes to species, names,
taxonomy several times each year. We have lost Thayer's Gull (now a subspecies
of Iceland) as well as others. Purple Swamphen is now Gray-headed Swamphen per
ebird, but not on ABA list. Magnificent Hummer is now Rivoli's Hummingbird (on
both lists). Graylag Goose is countable on ABA, but not ebird. I understand the
reason and science behind many of these changes, but I wonder how this affects
those who keep life lists. Please feel free to comment to me by facebook or my
email below, thanks.
