Hi everyone, I wanted to share with you that this past Thursday I observed two red crossbills on Travor Rd in the Danby State Forest, just a few steps from the parking area for the Finger Lakes Trail on Travor Rd, where Travor Rd takes a turn to the south. They flew up from a small wetland/stream west of Travor Rd to pine tree on the edge of the road, after I was pishing after some yellowthroats singing in the bushes and was turning back to the parking area. I had a nice view of an adult female, and took some photos (a bit out of range for good pics with a 55mm lens). They left together quickly, with the female making kip calls as it left, flying back down the stream to the SW of Travor Rd. I didn't try to follow them through the woods. Instead I made a recording from the road, but am not sure if any crossbill vocalizations are in it (many birds are singing together). The pics and recording are posted on eBird. The location for the checklist is given at Durfee Hill Rd, since I hiked up on the FLT from Durfee Hill Rd to Travor Rd and back. Travor Rd _should_ be driveable to the parking area. I hadn't tried it though, and with the recent rain there may be muddy spots on the road to deal with. With a good vehicle though, the spot 42°18'37.3"N, 76°25'32.8"W (42.310346, -76.425767) can be accessed without hiking as I did.
