The other day I listened for quite some time to a Robin making a thin, Cedar Waxing-like noise while sitting on its nest in the midday heat. Does anyone know if this sound is like a complaint about the heat or serves some heat-dispersal function? The noise was persistent all afternoon and was accompanied by significant heaving of the bird's body. Eben McLane --
