I hiked over to Stewart Park today and spent much of the morning on the ice.
In addition (or subtraction) to what's already been reported, I saw a male
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER vaguely associating with COMMON MERGANSERS west of the
red lighthouse. I missed the Northern Pintail. Maybe if I had simply walked
on the ice to Treman Marina I would have found it. I also missed the scoter
which I had found before and which I suspect Bob McGuire found yesterday and
identified as a Surf Scoter, a first ID for the basin this year.
In Renwick Sanctuary I found 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS on my first pass, then on my
return I found Mark Chou, and we scoped the hollow tree, finding 2 adult GREAT
HORNED OWLS. On the trail between Cascadilla Creek and the Sewage Treatment
Plant I found a calling FISH CROW.
