Hi all, I apologize for the late post, and thank Tom Schulenberg for posting my YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER from near the Ithaca Airport. It's about time for me to figure out how to post to the list from my phone, and to receive rare-bird alert text messages such as White-faced Ibis, which I drove past twice on Saturday without knowing about.
On Sunday morning, I arrived at Myer's Point at 6:15 and walked out to the waters edge. 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were the only birds of interest. Nothing moving up the lake. ORCHARD ORIOLE singing at the park entrance, as others have noted. An OSPREY was incubating on a new nest below Portland Point (I saw the birds carrying sticks in April). I then birded behind the Ithaca Airport, finding the aforementioned YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS, with some YELLOW-RUMPS, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, and PURPLE FINCHES in the flooded woods on Mohawk Rd. The bird had completely white lores, and came in to my imitated Screedh-owl. I got a couple of identifiable 'digi-bin" shots (holding the digital camera up to my binoculars), which I posted on the eBird rare bird flickr site. Along my loop behind the airport, I had 3 NASHVILLES, 2 NORTHERN PARULAS, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, OVENBIRDS, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, AND CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER (not singing). A pair of GREAT EGRETS were ffeeding at the back pond on Nemi Rd. -- I wonder if these were the same birds I saw flew over the Mohawk Rd pond. and 3 GREEN Herons dropped out of the skiy and we KNE .
