FYI - There was a positive sighting of the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on 2/24
at Sampson State Park on the east side of Seneca Lake, Seneca County.

And still there at noon. I was extremely lucky as it was the first bird I saw
as I drove up and noticed a group of people looking up in a tree!

This afternoon Ann Mitchell I looked for the Townsend's Solitaire. We arrived about noon and found about half a dozen birders in the vicinity on the paved roads. A couple said they had seen the bird earlier for about 15 minutes perched atop a deciduous tree 100 yards to the west. Soon after we
It's not supposed to be so easy. We arrived around 1130 and folks on the scene
hadn't seen the bird in awhile. Sue and I took a short walk down a lane heading
west
and found the bird perched within about two minutes! As the day progressed the
sightings became less frequent with the bird making a
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE still in same area and very cooperative from 10:30 to
10:45 when I left. Seems to be trying to get Cedar Waxwings out of it's
territory and where the waxwings were the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE seemed to
follow.

I drove up after work thinking I wouldn't see the bird. After 10 minutes of
phishing 2 Carolina Wrens came out and so did this gray beauty. Rain coming
down heavy and I'm looking at a lifer. The bird was on the lake side before the
gate where the road goes to rocks. Great find Tim!

Welcome and Basics
First, a huge thank you to Tim Lenz for finding this rare visitor from the West
and for getting the word out so quickly!
After learning about this bird, and having an open-enough schedule to make a
dash for it, I trekked the 45 minutes to Sampson State Park, arriving shortly
after noon. Having
My only goal today was to drive to Point Peninsula in Jefferson County to
search for the TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE. I woke up early and was on the road
before 5:00 AM and found the bird a few minutes before 8:00 AM.
