[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned Sparrow in Brooktondale

2022-05-04 Thread Sandy Podulka
At our feeders today--FOY. Also a Baltimore Oriole coming to grape
jelly and oranges and a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, both showed up
yesterday, and the Rose-breasted Grosbeak gang has grown to 3 males
and the first female today.

[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned Sparrow stopover

2022-05-04 Thread Harold Mills
This morning I heard several White-crowned Sparrows singing around the
intersection of Center Street and North Titus Street in downtown Ithaca.
Some of them seem to hang out there for several days during the spring
migration each year.

[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned Sparrow

2021-06-19 Thread Kevin J. Cummings
Hi all,

I was surprised to hear what I believed was a White-crowned Sparrow singing
this morning here in Dryden, and I’m currently looking at one foraging under my
feeders. There were many here this spring (I would see up to 10 or so at a
time), but I haven’t seen one since early May.

[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned sparrow

2021-04-28 Thread Andrew David Miller
A single white-crowned sparrow appeared at our feeder station today, amongst a
plethora of white-throated sparrows, song sparrows, and several chipping
sparrows. A single redpoll appeared today as well after about a week without
one.

[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned Sparrow--just OOB

2018-05-01 Thread AB Clark
This morning, a lovely pair of Purple Finches and a pair of Red Bellied
Woodpeckers were using our feeders along with Chipping Sparrows (and red
squirrels), when suddenly a White-crowned Sparrow appeared on the ground below.

No Tree Sparrows today. One at least was still here on Sunday.

Have been meaning to mention: in the Fall Creek watershed, visible off Red
Mill Rd, looking East, the Great Blue Heron rookery is active with probably a
dozen nests active and occupied by herons—for at least 2 weeks now.
Apparently, as reported by residents next to swamp, there was a Bald Eagle
regularly sitting on a high nest structure, but it left when the herons took
up residence.

[cayugabirds-l] White-crowned sparrow--Hile School Rd feeders

2016-02-11 Thread AB Clark
>From just outside the Basin:

Feb 11 2016. For the second time since yesterday am, a White-crowned Sparrow
was investigating and feeding a little at my feeder on Hile School Road, ~0.2
mi W of Ed Hill Road. As yesterday, it didn’t stay long. Today, I have watched
off and on all day, and it first turned up at about 5pm.

I have some poor pics in dim light through the window, but I see nothing to
indicate that it is other than an Eastern form. Pink bill vs Pink-orange
bill?? Mainly it looked cold, with its head feathers fluffed like a “fur hat”.
 But maybe I am projecting.

[cayugabirds-l] White-Crowned Sparrow

2013-05-04 Thread W. Larry Hymes
Went on a very enjoyable birding trip to Hammond Hill led by Suan Yong.
Thanks very much, Suan. With his help, and that of others in the group,
Sara Jane and I saw/heard a lot of good birds, including BARRED OWL,
BROAD-WINGED HAWK, WINTER WREN and 7 warbler species: MAGNOLIA,
BLACK-THROATED BLUE AND GREEN, YELLOW-RUMPED, MOURNING, OVENBIRD, and
_several_ BLACKBURNIAN. But after we parted company, our good day of
birding was not yet finished. On our return home, we found 2 beautiful
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW waiting for us.
