There's a Whip-poor-will singing in my yard (south Newfield). We use to have
one every spring but I don't recall hearing one here for at least 20 years

As we enter our 27th year of banding here we don't often get new species. Last
night
as we were opening nets for Northern Saw-whet Owls and waiting to initiate the
caller, we spotted something in one of the six nets. It sure looked like a
saw-whet
and when I reached into the bag I felt an
Sitting outside just now, listening to the night sounds, I thought the toads
down at the pond were being awfully noisy, so I moved around to the north end
of the house, andI immediately heard a Whip-poor-will. The last time I had one
in my yard was way back in 1997!

Becky Cramer found a WHIP-POOR-WILL while doing some House Wren work this
afternoon at Unit 1 of the Cornell Research ponds off Warren Drive north of
Cherry Road. It was roosting in a thicket in the woods north of the ponds
and flushed from a good distance when disturbed. I don't know where the

Lansing last night at about 8:00 PM. It was in a small, overgrown gully, not
50 ft from our porch. Great sound!

About half an hour ago, from the parking lot at 3109 N. Triphammer Rd.
(SE corner of Triphammer and Peruville roads), I heard a WHIP-POOR-
WILL calling. It was instantly recognizable despite the competing
spring peepers, toads, and traffic!

Cayugabirders,
I found a singing Whip-poor-will this evening on West Jersey Hill Rd.,
Danby (within sallying distance of the Ithaca town line). I arrived
just before 8:30 and I heard the bird sing from 8:34-8:39. After I
left, Jay McGowan tried for the bird and dipped. I heard him singing
to
