For the last 5 minutes there's been an adult male Dark-eyed Junco just 8ft away from me foraging on the ground outside Mann Library on Cornell Campus. Sporadically, he's been quietly singing to himself while he forages, but so quietly that nothing further than 10ft away could hear. The bird is also alone. I've seen other birds do this before on occasion, such as American Robins, but I don't know why? Are they practicing their songs? Anyone have an answer? Thanks, Evan B
