Re: [cayugabirds-l] Windmap

2015-12-29 Thread Meena Madhav Haribal
Thank you Wade and Melissa! Cool site! I like we can see temperatures and
pressure and other bells and whistles too. Great information. But only thing I
did not like is the color combinations. Reds and oranges don't go very well
with the greens. I have bookmarked the site.

As for the birds, yesterday around 10.30 am while I was driving on rt 70
towards Elmira, somewhere close to Eddy street in Collegetown, a Raven flew
over followed by a crow.

All the way to Elmira -Corning airport, I did not see any other birds except a
few crows here and there. I was hoping to see a shrike or a turkey.

Cheers

Of course you discovered you can zoom in with mouse or fingers on iPad, etc..
And if you click the speed scale legend it will cycle to your favorite unit
(knots, mph, etc.).
And there’s a bit of history you can roll back to on the time line: I just
dialed up last night’s blow to see how bad it was (30’s MPH).

Can anyone ( Dave Nicosia?? Bill Evans??) explain why the winds are forming a
kind of line across the country (see pictures below) where to the south of it
the winds are blowing from south to north and to the north of it the winds are
blowing from north to south? Is this pertaining to the way the front is moving?
I don't think there is any physical barrier such as mountain range or am I

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Windmap

2015-12-27 Thread Peter
Hi Meena.
As a Meteorology instructor, I've often seen wind map sites where
cooler, drier, polar air from the north/northwest meets warmer, moister
air from the southeast (a "front") but have never seen it depicted like
the one you've sent.
My best guess is that it IS a frontal boundary between the cooler
Canadian Air and the warmer, more moist Gulf aira classic
cold front.
See this site below for future use. In fact, it is now showing such a
frontal boundary (at 12:12 p.m. on the 27th.)

Hope this helps.
