I saw the hummer again today, about 3:30pm. I happened to be within about 5
feet of the feeder when it showed up (working on winterizing an exterior door,
no camera handy). I got a better look and did indeed see a rusty hue on its
side when it perched on the feeder. I didn't get a good look at the tail. Its
back was green, quite dark, and it had some spots/stripes on its throat on an
otherwise quite white throat, breast and belly. I'm not very knowledgeable
about hummingbirds, just describing what I've now seen up close. It showed up
again about 4:30pm, while I was watching with a camera. Unfortunately, the
light wasn't good for a picture. I got a decent silhouette, if anyone is
interested in that. Saw it again about 5:00pm. It's coming to a feeder on the
north side of our house. Birders are welcome to stop by, hangout on the north
patio and try to get a look, even if we aren't home.
