Hi All- I bird a lot around Mt. Pleasant- anyone know what's going on with the
extensive logging in the woods surrounding Cornell's farm fields past the sheep
farm (towards Mineah Rd.)? I realize some of those woods are not Cornell's,
but even in the woods that belong to Cornell (according to tax maps I checked)
there is almost clear cutting ( maybe 4 trees left in 2-3 acre swaths) that has
been going on since the summer. I called Farm Services and they said they were
aware of it and thought it was because of an Ash tree virus- they were weeding
out those trees to halt the spread, but many, many of those trees were not just
Ash but 50+ yr.old Oaks, Maples, Beech, etc.- not selective logging of Ash.
Seems drastic even for Cornell. I can't find out who authorizes the logging or
who might be overseeing what is going on. A few Pileateds were yelling their
heads off ( I know they do this anyway) but I felt like joining them. Anyone
know anything about this or who I could ask?
