In the midst of a volunteer training session at the Ornithology Lab this morning we watched a double-crested cormorant percching in the rain in the center of the pond. Later, on a very fast walk around the main pond, we had great looks at a pileated woodpecker, a pair of Eastern towhees, a possible Cooper's Hawk, and heard a wood duck. Also present were an array of emerging wildflowers - marsh marigold, trilium, troutlily, May apples, and skunk cabbage among others.
