[cayugabirds-l] Tree swallows galore, MacKenzie-Childs

2023-03-30 Thread job121830
Thurs. afternoon 3/30/23, to my great delight, I saw several dozen tree
swallows in all their splendor flitting hither & yon over the large open field
west of the factory. Becky was as delighted as I. We haven't yet seen any over
the lake or or the village ponds.
We had been out checking osprey platforms for newly arrived Os between Long
Point SP & Union Springs. We were successful in finding Os on about half of
them. She keeps tabs in her handy red notebook with details going to Candace
Cornell.Someone mentioned so many ospreys arriving "all at once." Remember, we
had strong winds from the S & SW this past wk.. Why should this not have had an
effect?

2021-03-11 Thread Peter Saracino
I sent a brief email earlier today but have yet to see it posted. I was
surprised to see 3 tree swallows this afternoon at the north end of Cayuga
Lake along lower Lake Rd. where it reunites with Rt. 89. They were
relatively close to the shore and winging southward.

RE: [cayugabirds-l] Tree swallows above Mundy Garden

2020-03-31 Thread Rustici, Marc
I apologize in advance for the potential "misuse" of this email group... I
hope by reading below you will agree it is important. Thanks.

Good Morning,

I need your help please...

I got an email at work today reminding people to NOT play scary or
inappropriate COVID-19 pranks on "April Fool's Day" (tomorrow).. I
thought about how sad that we had to say that...

SO I want your help to change tomorrow from , "April Fool's Day" into.
"APPRECIATION FOCUS DAY"...

Let's make tomorrow the day you say, "Thank You!", to those people we don't
say that to, or say that too often enough.

Let's say, "We appreciate what you do", "Your make our world/community a
better place!", "How are you, can I help you?","I am praying for you!",
"Do you want to talk?" Looking for people especially stressed or having
anxiety.

Let's remember anyone we know working in hospitals, first responders, mail
carriers, truckers, delivery people, etc. You get the pointPut a
note on your door, mailbox, social media, emails, etc. Let's light up social
medial with a wave of positive energy WE ALL NEED IT and it is a way for
those of us shut in or non-essential people to help with this war (let's show
we can still do ESSENTIAL WORK..).

Let's create a POSITIVE WAVE and defeat the "non-virus aspects" of this
crisis Let's not waste this time or crisis to improve humanity...

Please share with your friends, family, etc. Let's post on social media and
your chat groups. Let's make this spread as fast as we can

Thanks to all and please be safe.

Marc Rustici

[cayugabirds-l] tree swallows

2015-04-06 Thread Susan Fast
Late this morning atop Mt. Pleasant, I watched a pair of TREE SWALLOWS, at one
of the nest boxes along the road to the towers, starting territory and
courtship behaviors.  The female (presumably) hung on the front, looking in the
hole, while the male (presumably) did flutter flight over her and sang the
tree swallow song.  Then both would fly rapidly about the box, describing
mostly eccentric circles.  Sometimes one or the other would fly very high in
the air doing smaller circles.  Initially there was only the pair, but when I
left 1.5 hrs. later there were 3 pairs each interested in a different box.

This evening about 5:45pm I saw an estimated 150 scattered TREE SWALLOWS
southbound over Cayuga Inlet near Floral Avenue. They quit passing by before
the north wind kicked in, but that may have been due to time of day. I don't
know why they were headed south.

Heading out if Union Springs yesterday I screeched to a halt (no cars behind

greenhouse on Spring Street. And at least that many more--probably many more--
swooping over the newly mowed alfalfa fields.

2013-04-17 Thread Bill Mcaneny
Four Tree Swallows showed up this morning checking out the nest boxes in our
field. The one they seem to want the most already has House Sparrows
claiming an interest. There may be conflict.

Yesterday, the first bird we saw was a Harrier and the second was a Flicker.
Both birds have white rumps, so I was wondering what would appear next.
White-rumped sandpipers? My question was answered when a rabbit ran out from
our porch.
