We have just seen this happening - by both an either immature or female oriole and a male oriole in our yellow trumpet vine - at different times in one day. They hammered into the base of the bloom at different angles; the bloom usually dropped off eventually. They then either dropped down to that bloom on the ground or started a new one. It's a very different from the gentle nodding of vine branches as the hummingbirds work their way through!

Subject: Orioles and trumpet vines

An immature oriole (Baltimore or Orchard--I'm not sure which--any tips on identifying them would be appreciated) has been shredding the flowers on our Trumpet vine--presumably to get at the nectar. Today I saw a humming bird chase it!

Has anyone else seen this behavior? This is the first time I've noticed it.
