Re: [cayugabirds-l] Loons at inlet?

2017-09-25 Thread Donna Lee Scott
The only time I have seen loons in large groups on Cayuga Lake is during
migration, but that wouldn't happen till at least the end of October or early
November.
We can sometimes see a hundred or more spread out on the lake then.

There were numerous loons off Elm Beach Road in Ovid this afternoon, as
well. I would guess fifteen in the largest group, mostly solitary but
several pairs which would include adults and/or juveniles.

2015-11-12 Thread Peter

Hi.
I made a brief stop there about 3 pm yesterday on my way to Ithaca and
saw 3 common loons (didn't stay long)(and only had binocs).

Saw an additional 2 at Sheldrake point, further up the lake.
I plan to return after this front passes thru and get there around sunrise.
Perhaps time could have been a factor?

Ahoy bird watchers,

An environmentally minded ecologically sensitive professional videographer
would very much like to get footage of young eagles- on Lake Ontario or
elsewhere in Rochester Buffalo area.

Getting the youngsters as they learn and perfect soaring and flying would
be totally cool. Can you help out? If you see youngsters out and about in
a habitutal 'flying school' could you forward to me and Ill send it on to
him?

Thank you very much. The video would be useful for awareness and education
and would be widely seen I am certain! ( he gets submissions gets on

loons overhead. There were nine of them fairly low in a tight knit group.
So I watched them for a few seconds and almost missed the bus. Luckily
driver saw me and stopped the bus :-)
Along East Ithaca Recreation Way, between Maple Hill and Game farm way
there was my usual Mocking bird. Today he was on a slightly further away
tree and called a couple of times as I passed. I replied back as usual. It
seems to be kind of we say hello to each other almost everyday. There were
several Am robins in equestrian field on fruit trees.
