Tried again for the grebe on the Main Pool this morning, again without
success. I did finally find a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE out on the far
side of the goose flock.
Yesterday picking Livia up from the Syracuse airport we found a well-marked
SNOWY OWL sitting on a snow pile north of the

To elaborate more on the grebe's position: Tim and I were looking from the
Swan Pen at Stewart Park when I spotted the grebe this morning. From
Stewart Park, if you look to the northeast along the east shore, you'll see
a squat, yellow shed near a break in the trees where the road is visible.

Thanks, Brad!
I arrived at E. Shore Park an hour after your posting and was able to see the
Western Grebe in the distance towards that bluish-gray piling with a light that
is north from the red lighthouse.
The W. Grebe was still close enough to see with just binocs. It stood up in the
water
This repeated sighting of a single grebe vs. two grebes together makes me think
there are/were three birds on the lake.
But I must also say this, past Saturday I was sitting at Myers and watching
bird movements, some seemed very random, but I watched lots of Common
Mergansers head to south-end
A WESTERN GREBE was visible far to the northwest from Stewart Park until at least 10:30am. I wasn't sure if I could see a light loral spot. The flank seemed more uniformly gray than I recall from my previous closer sighting from the southwest corner of the lake, and the only whitish part may have

We were wrong. There are actually TWO Western Grebes here.

Wow! For what it's worth, I couldn't find the bird at the south end of the
lake at lunch today even though viewing conditions were perfect. I did see
the two RED-THROATED LOONS and five COMMON LOONS.

I visited Hog Hole about an hour before Gary, noting the Western Grebe
close in – and a Red-throated Loon out past the White Lighthouse.

For what it's worth, Jim Tarolli and I looked for it yesterday between 4:15 and
5:00pm and didn't see it. We were scoping from the lighthouse. I am by no
means suggesting that it is gone, and I hope others have better luck.

Cayugabirds-L List Info:
I saw the WEGR Tuesday ~3pm from the south side of the marina at Myer's. (I
had not spotted it from the lighthouse in the half hour prior.) There was a
strong wind coming out of the north and it was diving frequently, moving
south and then west; I lost sight of it in the chop around 3:30.

Big thanks to Chris and Jessie (note, the ie...cold fingers slipped up on
my iPhone in my message below)! Also, thanks to Bob McGuire, Chris Wood, and
Dave Nutter for use of optics! Excellent find and it's about time this
showed up here again...it's on the Basin List, but I don't know when that

All,
I am planning a trip up to Lake Ontario this Saturday with my wife.
I will be stopping by Chimney Bluffs in the hopes of seeing the Western
Grebe. I also heard that there are many other great spots up there for
other birds. Does anyone have any suggestions on locations
in that general area
