The snowy owl is still at the outlet mall. At 9:42 it was perched on the tower
by J Crew.

I abbreviated Tundra Swans in my earlier post (T. Swans) by mistake, sorry for
the confusion. They are still being seen all around Montezuma (main pool, East
Rd, etc). I also had a flock of turkeys by the corner of Sutterby and Lamb Rds,
just NW of the village of Tyre on Friday AM.

Many thousands of Snow Geese just passed low over our house on Whitted
Rd (Snyder Hill area) headed south. I was able to pick out at least
two candidates for Ross's Goose. Smaller body, short neck, shorter
thinner wings. Where was Ken Rosenberg when I needed him?!

Can anyone out there tell me who I should report to if I participate in the
Christmas bird count tomorrow? I would bird the area behind my house which
is turkey hill including from the corner of turkey hill and ellis hollow
creek road up the power line north and east to mount pleasant road.
Glad to hear it's still there!Has anyone input this Snowy Owl into eBird? It hasn't shown up on the map yet.--Dave NutterOn Dec 31, 2011, at 09:42 AM, Val Stevens valstev...@yahoo.com wrote:The snowy owl is still at the outlet mall. At 9:42 it was perched on the tower by J Crew.

I went out fairly late today, so didn't see a lot. I saw snow geese
near my house on Chestnut Ridge Rd. in Sennett. Went by the Mud Lock
eagle's nest but no one was home. Drove through Montezuma, but
nothing much different- C geese and swans.. At Benning, there was a
Great Blue Heron.
I put the Waterloo Outlet Mall Snowy Owl in E-Bird just now.

It's not in the same league as a Ross's Goose, but at 14:00 this afternoon
there was at least one Cackling Goose with the large flock (ca 400
individuals) of Canada Geese in the field along Hanshaw Road, near the
mouth of Sapsucker Woods Road.
I hope that someone finds it tomorrow, between there
the shrike was on a bush next to the fourth wood fence post east of the
barn on the farm road to the pond at 4:15 today before it flew back towards
Turkey hill road south of the barn.

Thank-you. Suddenly now I'm able to see on the eBird map 8 reports of the Outlet Mall bird between 12/26 and 12/30 (including a couple which are rather sloppily located), plus Joe Slattery's 12/26 report from King's Corner's Rd above the Cobblestone Winery in Varick. I guess reports of rarer birds
There is a long tradition of recording when, where, and by whom each bird species is first observed each year within the Cayuga Lake Basin. I have kept this list for several years, but in 2012 it may be on the Cayuga Bird Club website, thanks to Paul Anderson. All the species found on the January
If someone will be counting on Burns Road in Brooktondale tomorrow, I saw and
heard eight Bluebirds toward the top of the hill going up the road from Central
Chapel Road.
We also heard a RAVEN but couldn't see it.

We drove over to Lilley's Tack Feed north of Dryden late this morning for
bird seed. Near TC3 we saw a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a GREAT BLUE HERON.
There was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK hunting at the corner of Ferguson and Irish
Settlement Rds. At the end of Signal Tower Rd., we watched about 500 SNOW
Hi all,
The Northern Shrike was making the rounds of the field north of the large barn
on Turkey Hill Road, 10:00 am Saturday, then again at 11:00 am when I returned
to photograph it. When I left at 1:45 it was still in the field, foraging
frequently but with far less success than on the balmy
Actually, at 9:54, he was still sleeping, if you can believe that. But
later in the day he was sorting through geese as well -- at Stewart Park in
preparation for tomorrow's CBC. Not much to be found, and very low numbers and
diversity of waterfowl -- not boding too well for tomorrow. The
