Had our FOY female PURPLE FINCH yesterday afternoon. As I reported
earlier, 2 males stopped by our feeders last Thursday. Haven't seen any

Hi all,
The walk along East Ithaca Recreation Way (EIRW) in the morning to work, I saw
a Barn Swallow, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Flicker and an angry looking Ruby
Crowned Kinglet singing his song. A few TVS were floating in the air. And of
course other usual birds.
From office window saw two
Livia and I just found a nice yellow-throated AUDUBON'S YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER with Myrtles by the boat house at Stewart Park.

I work at Cornell, and I currently have a pair of house sparrows *trying*
to build a nest on the window sill, under the air conditioner. I say trying
because for the past two weeks they work tirelessly at it, but by the
afternoon their whole project is gone. I don't think it is the wind, but
I suspected that once I posted that I hadn't had any male purple finch
since last Thursday, they would reappear. Right on cue, a male showed
up a few minutes ago.

Today for lunch walk I did a round of Beebe Lake and Mundy WG. Highlights were,
one Horned Grebe on the lake, several Ruby-crowned Kinglets behind Mann
Library and a Broad-winged Hawk, which was actually heading south despite of
stiff south winds.
Right now Song Sparrow is hopping around
I know this is out of the immediate region but I thought folks may be
interested in this bird.
This evening at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in the Kumpf Marsh I spotted
a male transitional plumage RUFF. The photo is on the link below (it was
sunset so the light is not great).
