Last night was my highest Black-billed Cuckoo count since starting regular
recording in late May of this year. A total of 21 vocalizations were heard from
at least 18 different individuals passing over my house in Etna, NY.
I've uploaded a couple of images of the cuckoo chart for all of 2012
This morning the Wood Thrush in our yard started singing before dawn, starting
the chorus that we listen to through the window as we wake, and continuing past
8:00. We've never had a Wood Thrush stay beyond migration before, but this one
has been singing in the same place since May 21. I take
The Clay-colored Sparrow continues at theLindsay-Parsons Preserve in Danby. It
sang continuously from the trees hedgerow at the NE corner of the first
field, blue trail. I watched it for nearly two hours this morning.

I witnessed a hairy woodpecker leave the nest for the first time last
Thursday. It was at the nest that Meena discovered on the Cornell campus.
In any case, it just popped out rather unceremoniously at 11:22 and fell
out of sight never to be seen again. The parents continued to feed other
young at
Yesterday at 445 hours I recorded my Catbird singing. His song was slow paced,
clear and confident. He continued to sing next three hours almost non-stop,
except when he went to try some moths at my moth sheet, which were scarce. By
700 hours I realized his song's tempo has changed. His notes
