Hi everyone,
I had a rather surprising first-parulid-of-year-in-Sapsucker Woods just now:
a PALM WARBLER. I saw the bird in the clump of alder shrubs/trees through
which the boardwalk cuts, leading to the platform over the water to the south
of Kip's Barn (the big white barn north of the
Numerous singing SWAMP SPARROWs in the field/marsh east of 3rd parking lot.
They were sitting high so easy to see their fresh plumage in the rising sun.
I heard some ‘quarter-clicking’ and low grunty sounds but could not say if it
was a Rail or not. It was near me and made many of the grunts
There was a BROWN THRASHER singing away in the top of a small tree in the
Cornell Plantations arboretum this morning. I also saw 3 CORMORANTS fly over
while I was there.

Hi All,
My wife Gina and I were out in the yard most of yesterday and enjoyed regular
flyovers by the Merlin/s
that Matt Young found on Saturday.
A pair of very loud CarolinaWrens were also frequent entertainers.

Two Brown Thrashers are in my yard, holding a singing contest. One does very
credible imitations of Great Crested Flycatcher, Chestnut-sided Warbler, and
Alder Flycatcher. What a charmer!

Our first Chipping Sparrow showed up at the feeders this afternoon. It was
scratching around under the sunflower seed feeder. Not long after, a
Sharpshinned Hawk cruised thru the yard but made no attacks that I could
see. This a.m. a Flicker flew away as I drove past the barns. In other
