I hadn't seen the Chipping Sparrow for awhile, but he is here this morning. I
put a niger seed mix in a tray to attract American Goldfinch and hoping for
Redpolls. Goldfinch came and the Chipping Sparrow made an appearance. It was in
the tray with the finches. Cool! Ann

There was a surprise visitor at our feeder this morning during the
snowstorm: a rather plump-looking Carolina Wren. It was clinging to the
suet feeder diligently picking at the suet while around it a mix of
Sparrows and Juncos worked the seed fallen from our other feeder.
I don't recall seeing it
I have seen at least one of my usual two CAROLINA WRENS here by Cayuga Lake
today, while counting for the GBBC. Also, lots of other usual feeder birds,
including 5 PINE SISKINS, as well as a small raft of Aythyas - REDHEADS,
CANVASBACK, SCAUP SP, RINGNECKED DUCKS, plus COMMON MERGS., HERRING
Way outside the basin!
We've seen a total of 3 redpolls at our Lansing place, but as I type here in
our camp near Old Forge, NY, I've counted no fewer than 15 right around the
feeder. That's my GBBC number, but they are so active they're hard to count.
There may be twice that many in the
Two Common Redpolls so far at my feeders! :)

Yesterday we had our first pine siskins, two females, and today we had a
male and female, on our nyger feeder. We also continue to have one or
two redpolls on the same feeder most days and the female flicker
continues at the suet as do(es) a carolina wren or wrens - usually we
have two but
