I wonder if when the half of the duck’s brain is sleeping the opposite foot is
kicking randomly like my sleeping dog does (and maybe I do it too!).
Or maybe this is akin to a screensaver: the duck keeps one leg kicking so it
doesn’t freeze in place!
Just some random theories….

Did a quick drive through the Lott Farm/Ridge Road area in Fayette (south of
Seneca Falls). No gyrfalcon but did see 2 harriers and 1 billion red-tailed
hawks. A perched then hunting Merlin was a treat. It snagged a pigeon! Fast
and angry.

Driving down 96 into town today, there was a suspiciously rusty-colored
snowball on the shoulder. I pulled over and walked back, and sure enough,
there was a red morph Eastern Screech-Owl. It was alive but looking poorly.
