To defend my (granted slight) reputation as an ear-birder, the birds
John and I encountered yesterday evening about 100 yds west of the
green bridge over the barge canal were (I feel strongly) Acadian
Flycatchers. We arrived there around 7:30 PM and spent about a half

I read your report with interest. I believe that Wolf Island is the
site of some 85 major wind turbines, now in operation. I am wondering
how their presence affects the woodcocks' sky dance. And I also
wonder how the winter Short-eared Owl population is faring.

Myers Point was quiet this morning between 6:45 and 7:15.
2 Least and 1 Semipalmated Sandpipers remain on the gravel bar in the
creek along with a Green Heron. 20 DC Cormorants, 3 Blue-winged Teal,
9 Hooded Mergansers in the water.

shorebird area we found was the Muckrace Flats, a small area right
along Savannah-Spring Lake Road. May's Point Pool still has
significant exposes mud, but not a lot of birds.

I find it especially cool when there are multiple calls of a single
bird as it approaches, flies overhead, and then continues into the
distance. And then I realize that what I am hearing is just one small
thread in a broad river of birds moving south.

While out with one of the dogs a few minutes ago, I had a flock of
some 25 Pine Siskins fly over, calling, and heading SE. Snyder Hill
area.
Also my first White-throated Sparrows of the fall, singing in the
shrubs.
