Last Friday I had a Red Breasted Nuthatch for one day. It was unbelievably tame and came within a foot of me. It’s only the second time I’ve had one here. I haven’t seen it again, unfortunately. I have four White Crowned Sparrows. One is an adult and the other three are first year Birds.

But I was musing about how birding and optics have changed. But now I am thinking maybe I should go back bare basics. Just use good old eyes and go closer to see birds! Or look for those birds that are visible! Do we really need to spend so much of money to see birds that far away?
