[cayugabirds-l] White-winged Crossbills @ Summerhill
With the approach of snow/rain for this afternoon, I elected to get in a walk along Salt Road this morning. I encountered numerous chickadees Red-breasted Nuthatches, more than any other day this winter. At the corner of Salt Hoag at about 9:15 I had several birds fly over, calling like White-winged Crossbills. I walked down Hoag and, as I approached the swampy area, two WHWICR came in and perched directly overhead. After a minute, a larger flock of 10 came by, flying NW, and the two birds above me followed, all of them calling vociferously. Back at the car (Ridgerunners Snowmoblie Clubhouse) there was a noisy flock of some 30+ Pine Siskins, feeding in hemlocks. I checked the feeders along Lake Como Rd (Nick's house neighbors) and found only a few juncos and Bluejays.
