*Local to San Jose, CA* Position: SQL Server DBA Location: San Jose, CA Duration: 6+ months contract RESPONSIBILITIES: Review, implement and be part of the database design effort: create and maintain databases, schemas, tables, indexes, stored procedures and other objects Participate in 24x7 production support, on a rotation basis, of our production databases. Be flexible and available to work shifts that may be outside of standard business hours. Respond to production alerts in a timely manner and quickly identify, troubleshoot and remediate database issues Research and suggest solution from small- all the way to platform-scale challenges Manage and administer for several high-availability production SQL Servers, as well as test and development instances - both physical as well as on the cloud Analyze the tune database performance; make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of application SQLs, data storage, query and stored-procedure performance and general processing Maintain three nines (99.999% / no more than 5 minutes of downtime per year) of production database availability Establish and maintain backup and recovery procedures of production databases ensuring minimum downtime and maximum recoverability Support software development process including SQL changes review to ensure optimized released to production and general DBA support for development and QA database environments Participate in release activities. Assist with deploying DB related changes to Release and production systems Proactively monitor availability and performance of the production databases Develop and document appropriate database standards, policies, and procedures to enable standardization, ensure integrity, and promote accountability REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA Experience installing, administering and supporting medium to large size Microsoft SQL Server Databases environments. Knowledge of other DB technologies is a plus. Experience with Microsoft Clustering Services / High availability systems is a plus Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database performance. Experience working with indexes, index management, and statistics. Experience with backups, restores and recovery models. Experience with open source databases/data systems; MongoDB/Hadoop experience a plus Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to verbalize or express complex technical concepts effectively verbally and in writing.
