Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab IP Routing

2013-04-30 Thread Martin Sloan
Josh,

For the OSPF question, my current plan is to issue the below as part of a
base config on all routers to make sure I'm advertising the local networks
and hopefully negate any built-in troubleshooting for the routing piece:

router ospf 1
network 0.0.0.0 area 0

I'm interested to hear others opinions though.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] IPCC Problem

2013-04-30 Thread Robert Thomas
You get this greeting whenever your script throws out an exception.

I would reactive debug it and look at what step is failing. Who knows,
perhaps you missed a setting on the CSQ so the script is finding itself
unavailable to route the call to the agent and throwing an exception to
you.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab IP Routing

2013-04-30 Thread Robert Thomas
Josh,

As a piece of advise, I would have some basic level of troubleshooting
regarding OSPF and routing. I have heard instances of interfaces or
loopbacks that might not be reachable from the default config.

Although you don't want to spend a whole lot of time on this, I would
expect a CCIE to have some basic level of config and troubleshooting should
something not have connectivity. Again the type of issues that could be
induced in the lab are very limited.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Buying home lab or Waiting for Cisco Live in June

2013-04-30 Thread Robert Thomas
Thanks for the Advise. CCIE salary expectations vary on time and they also
vary on Geography.

Currently a CCNP in CR (Costa Rica) makes somewhere 25K a year. (Yeah we
are cheap, perhaps not as cheap as India) and a CCIE makes somewhere aroun
50K a year. You can leave pretty decently on this country anywhere above
the 20K.

I'm planning to buy the whole Routers, Switch, PVDM2 and so on, just like
the lab. Perhaps I might skip over the 4ESW modules.

For the server I'm planning to use my good old I7, 24GB RAM Desktop, that
has suite me well.

Eventhoug Cisco refresh to CUCM and go ballistic, with a 2 Cluster Setup
and multiple products, I don't think they will go beyond the 32GB ball
park. Specially looking at the UCS TRC, and the B6K, so people have
equipment to play with.

One of the factor cost is shipping large stuff, like servers became a
logistic hassle. Routers and SW, and small parts are easy to
"transit" through customs.

Just configure it as an h323 gateway, it is still a "trunk" and it is the

I don't think you go for the ICT of the H323 Gateway.

The recommendation is a H225 Trunk. When you create a new trunk you have
multiple options: "ICT GK controlled, ICT non GK controlled and H255 Trunk.

I would go for the last.

1)The question says trunk so it must be a trunk (inter cluster trunk)

2) that’s more difficult. Usually it’s a codec mismatch. And is found in the
trace ( I forget exact wording you are looking for). Hopefully someone else
can provide better detail.

hi All,

I have a few questions in relation to H323 troubleshooting

We are required to provision a proof of concept (POC) H323 trunk between CUCM
and voip service
provider . The cucm should send H323 traffic to service provider on ip address
XX.XX.XX.XX (public Ip address) . This call should be available for HQ Phones
only.
Inbound H.323 calls from VoIP service provider is not needed for the PoC test.

Questions :-

1) Should we use a H323 gateway or H323 trunk ( no gatekeeper controlled) to
achieve the above requirement?

2) If we need provide the appropriate debug or traces to verify whether or not
No way audio instances prevalent for HQ Phones . Then what do we look for in
the logs ?

Thanks ,
MJ

Also , It's good to mention that if you've decided to wait for a new

You have to wait for a very long time at least a year after the new version

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab IP Routing

2013-04-30 Thread Josh Petro
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry for asking this question, but it hit me a little while ago that
for the most part, routing via OSPF is setup on most (if not all) of the
practice labs. Is that the case in the real lab? I'm trying to make sure I
don't need to brush up on my OSPF commands prior to my attempt. I know the
previous versions of the lab had more IP routing in them, but I wasn't sure
what this version was like.

Also, I'm assuming our connection to the lab is via console cable and there
is no way to telnet to the gateways, correct? Reason I ask is because we're
always talking about speed and whatnot and 9600 baud isn't exactly what
you'd want so I've been practicing my command line switches for finding the
correct running-config commands.

Any info (without breaking NDA) is appreciate.

Robert,

Robert my good advice for you.
But the lab with the highest end Server something like DELL POWER EDGE V3
which has 64 gb rams and 4 TB hard drives the server will be valid for any
other application you want.
CUCM Cluster V9 , Microsoft Server 2012 , Exchange 2013 and LYNC 2013.
Make sure your server is powerful in the first place and that will not cost
you more than $950 from ebay.com.
For the routers and switches If you bought it as components and you would
like to sell it as component it will still sell slightly more or less than
the price you get.
I see don't hesitate just buy your homelab nowadays from ebay.com and Never
give up.
If you have only this year for this current version then keep calm and
carry on.
Study and If you didn't pass schedule a test every 30 days exactly till the
abolishment date.
You will find a spot somewhere for sure whether in SJC , RTP , Europe ,

We have to struggle for something which will give us the lifeline and CCIE
is a big lifeline for many people not necessarily R/S as it lost it's value
in the market already but CCIE Voice is unique and demanded and if you
invested 20K for lab equipment , lab attempts , workbooks and etc. believe
me you will get compensated right away as soon as you achieve it.
If you value in the market now 80K - 120K with your current experience +
CCVP then when you become CCIE V you will get a job for 150K or 150K+ then
its worth it its lifetime investment do it mate.

Thanks,
Hesham

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] MGCP Auto vs Manual configuration

2013-04-30 Thread Robert Thomas
As far I was aware those parameters are just for 6608 GW running as MGCP.
You should not be using those for auto config.

Basically if you want to configure a fractional, just throug the command
manually and modify the timeslots when you configure your pri-group.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] !!Questions on H323 trunk troubleshooting!!

2013-04-30 Thread Robert Thomas
I don't think you go for the ICT of the H323 Gateway.

The recommendation is a H225 Trunk. When you create a new trunk you have
multiple options: "ICT GK controlled, ICT non GK controlled and H255 Trunk.

I would go for the last.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Buying home lab or Waiting for Cisco Live in June

I know this can be true. When I took my lab, another version was updating
and I talked to one of the guys taking it. he said that all the seats were
full for the next 6 weeks. So if he did not pass, he most likely would not
get another chance. Not sure what people do, book extra labs just in
case? Then what do you do with the extra one if you pass? Oh well, don't
have to worry about that.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] UCCX issue

2013-04-30 Thread Alex Mendoza
Hello Experts

Silly question,

I'm not looking in deep regarding this but let me ask first maybe is something
easy to resolve.

When I call from PSTN phone to IPCC CSQ (task 9.2 from kevin's videos).

I should hear "thank you for calling all representative …" instead I hear "you
for calling all representative..."

Seems like CSQ released the audio very quick and PSTN's Phone gets the audio
with delay.

best regards
AA

You can download IPblue softphone. It provides you 5 instances of phones,
enough for most of the labs. You can use it as the SCCP phone. For SIP

Yes use loopbacks and get multilab IPBLUE softphone, it will work and I
believe IPExpert has a write up on it.

Be sure to get the multilab version
